Are You Prepared?

Last years fire season was just awful, so many people were affected and I hope we never see a repeat again.

It is a good time to take stock and figure out what you need in the event of an evacuation order or alert. And also the lessons that were learned the last fire season.

One thing I was not aware of and didn’t think of, was power outages. The power went off and on several times, although it remained on, the power to both cell and hard wired internet were knocked out. Although we had Voyent Alert installed on our phones, it was not working without an internet connection.

I highly recommend registering with Voyent Alert so you receive updates via text (http://register.voyent-alert.com/) . As when the internet is out, it does no good to have the app.

  • Landline Phone Users without internet access can call the Village office at (250) 679 3238 (between 9 am and 4 pm) to request to receive alerts via landline phone.

Registration for the service is FREE, simple and totally anonymous. For more information you can check out the FAQ and the Voyent Alert! Privacy Policy.

Once I was organized and ready to evacuate, my attention then turned to my neighbours. If you have time and are able, it’s worth checking with your neighbours as everyone may not be aware of a quickly developing situation.

Take care and if you have anything helpful to add email your tips to admin@chasebcnews.ca
